Summer Infant Recalls Inclined Sleeper

SwadddleMe® By Your Bed Recall

The SwaddleMe® By Your Bed Inclined Sleeper has been recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). It’s just one of several similar designs coming under scrutiny after the untimely deaths of multiple infants who used the products. Doctors say the design can cause suffocation and fatalities. If there’s a SwaddleMe® By Your Bed Rocker in your home, discontinue use immediately.

The recall includes model number 91394, which can be located on the crosstube bar of the frame. The product was originally sold in stores like Amazon and Buy Buy Baby beginning in March 2017 through December 2019. If you discover this product in your home, stop using it immediately and contact the manufacturer for a possible refund.

A Deadly Design

Infant sleeper devices are intended to help babies fall asleep more easily. They put babies at an incline, rocking them to sleep. The design has a serious fatal flaw, though: babies who fall asleep in these devices may roll to their sides or stomachs. Since babies aren’t yet strong enough to readjust themselves in their sleep, this change in positions can lead to suffocation. Infant sleepers have been linked to a number of deaths, leading experts to advise against using these products altogether.

Other Recalls

The SwaddleMe By Your Bed Rocker is hardly the only infant sleeper device being recalled. Dangerous design flaws inherent to these types of sleepers make virtually every similar product on the market potentially dangerous. The following infant inclined sleepers have been recalled by the CPSC:

  • Fisher Price Rock N Play (04/12/19) *deaths reported
